Choosing either of the two educational paths below will fulfill the educational requirements to become a Yoga Alliance RYT-500 (Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher 500 hours).
500 hour yoga teacher training can be done in two ways:
- By completing one 500 hour yoga teacher training certification program.
- By completing a 200 hour and a 300 hour yoga teacher training certification course separately to make a combined total of 500 hours of yoga teacher training.
*To qualify to register as a RYT-500, you must successfully complete 500 hours of training and have 100 hours of teaching experience post-training.

How long is a 500 hour yoga teacher training?
Realistically, you can expect to spend at minimum about 8 months working towards completing a 500-hour online YTT. This is assuming that you are working on your YTT part-time and working on it consistently. It may also take you much longer to finish than that.
500 hour yoga teacher training online will require a serious time commitment from you, make no mistake about that!
But the great thing about online yoga courses is that many offer lifetime access to the course. That does not necessarily mean that you have a lifetime to get certified, though. Those are two different things. So read the fine print,
For example, Brett Larkin’s 200 hour Uplifted yoga teacher training includes lifetime access to the course materials, but you must finish the course within 1 year to get yoga certified.
In other words, you can revisit the materials and refresh yourself on the content at any point in the future, but you must complete the course within 1 year to become a certified yoga teacher. Make sense?! But again, each program is different.
Online yoga teacher training offers maximum flexibility, which is one of the major perks of doing your yoga teacher training online.
Advanced yoga teacher training online
As well as becoming a certified 500 hour yoga teacher by completing online training, there are other advanced yoga teacher training courses as well. Yin, Pranayama, and Pre-Natal, to just name a few.
There are actually tons of courses that you can take to advance your knowledge in specific areas of study. You can even study the Chakra system and Ayurveda in an online course.
If you are currently a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance, you are likely aware that in order to maintain your registration, you need to meet the hourly requirements for Continuing Education Credits (CE credits).

What is covered in a 500 hour yoga teacher training?
A 500 hour yoga teacher training is very comprehensive. If the school is a Registered Yoga School (or RYS) with the Yoga Alliance, their curriculum must satisfy certain requirements (see below). But the guidelines are not extraordinarily rigid, so each curriculum can vary vastly.
