Bali offers a unique and enriching environment for yoga teacher training, combining spirituality, rich culture, and a welcoming community. It’s a safe, affordable destination with stunning beaches and lush nature, perfect for deepening your practice. Plus, with 30-day visa-free entry, it’s an ideal location for a month-long training. Here are seven benefits of choosing Bali for your yoga teacher training:

  1. Spirituality: Bali is rich with traditions and rituals. It is also a haven and home to artisans of all kinds.
  2. Culture: The Balinese people are truly something special, and you will be in awe of their handcrafts, architecture, art, food, fabrics—you name it! And perhaps above all, their kind spirits. It is truly like no other place on Earth.
  3. Safety: Life in Bali is laid-back, and crime rates are extremely low.
  4. Affordability: The general cost for items like local food, transportation, and accommodation is dirt cheap compared to the West.
  5. Surf, sand, and sun: Bali has fantastic beaches, great for surfing, relaxing, and swimming.
  6. Nature: Bali's lush nature provides the perfect environment to connect with Nature and disconnect from everything else.
  7. You can go visa-free for 30 days: Your YTT will last about 30 days. Under the visa exemption rule, citizens from 92 countries are allowed to enter Indonesia for 30 days upon arrival (in other words, no visa is required for a stay of up to 30 days).

After completing any of these trainings, you'll be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200. Although it's not required, many teachers choose to do so.

Why Bali is a popular choice for yoga teacher training

Bali has emerged as a top destination for yoga teacher training, thanks to its rich spiritual heritage and warm, welcoming atmosphere. Known for the kindness and hospitality of its people, Bali offers a serene and safe environment where life moves at a relaxed pace.

The island’s affordability also makes it an attractive choice, with low costs for food, transportation, and accommodations compared to Western countries. Bali's tropical climate is perfect for those who enjoy warm weather, and its abundant fresh produce, particularly tropical fruits, supports a healthy, nourishing lifestyle during training.

Bali’s lush landscapes, from verdant rice fields to pristine beaches, create an ideal setting to connect with nature and disconnect from the distractions of everyday life. Plus, citizens from 92 countries can get a visa on arrival, allowing a stay of up to 30 days for around $50 USD, making it even more convenient for those looking to embark on a month-long yoga journey.

When choosing the best areas to do yoga teacher training in Bali, several locations stand out for their unique blend of serenity, culture, and natural beauty. Here are my suggestions for places to look into staying in Bali for YTT:

  • Ubud: Thanks to its serene landscape and tranquil energy, Ubud has become a mecca for spiritual seekers. The picturesque rice fields are simply mesmerizing. There is an abundance of vegetarian and healthy restaurants and cafes, and the city has a plethora of spiritual events happening on a daily basis.
  • Canggu: With its relaxed vibe and proximity to beaches, Canggu offers a more modern, surf-and-yoga atmosphere.
  • Nusa Lembongan: For those seeking tranquility, this tiny island just a quick boat ride from Bali provides a peaceful escape with stunning ocean views and a slower pace.

So let’s get on with it and get you over to Indonesia, shall we?

There's only one airport in Bali, Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) also known as Denpasar airport which is in the South of the island. While there is no Uber in Bali, there is Grab Taxi, which is the equivalent to Uber. I suggest that you download the Grab App in advance, even if your school is arranging your transportation from the airport. You'll likely want to take a Grab at some point in your trip.

The best time to visit Bali is from April to October, which is the dry season. This is “high season”, and flights may be more expensive.

The rainy season in Bali is from November to March. I personally prefer traveling during “off season” like rainy season or “shoulder season”, myself. If your YTT is scheduled during the rainy season, don't worry, it won't rain all day, and you'll likely be in a yoga shala most of the days anyway.
